QUINCY AND WEYMOUTH, MA, ISSUED MAY 23, 2019… South Shore Habitat for Humanity (http://sshabitat.org), which has delivered quality housing in partnership with families in need for the past 32 years, has named the nationally recognized expert on housing and children’s health, Dr. Megan Sandel, as the keynote speaker at their 26th annual charity event, High Heels & Hard Hats Gala on Friday, June 7th, 2019 at 6 pm at the Granite Links, 100 Quarry Hill Drive in Quincy.
Megan Sandel, MD, is an associate professor of pediatrics at the Boston University School of Medicine as well as an associate professor of environmental health at the Boston University School of Public Health. She has held both of these positions for the last eight years, but has been working with the university since 2002, first as an assistant professor. She is the former pediatric medical director of Boston Healthcare for the Homeless program and the first medical director of the founding site for medical-legal partnerships, Medical-Legal Partnership-Boston. In 1998 she and a group of doctors at Boston Medical Center published a first of its kind national report on how housing affected child health.
“Dr. Sandel’s research and work provide compelling evidence on the negative affect that unstable housing has on children’s health and development,” said Evelyn Nelson, Vice President of Development at South Shore Habitat for Humanity. “The impact on our next generation underscores the importance of what our sponsors, volunteers and contributors do for our community.
This event features an evening of fun including craft cocktails, raffles, gourmet food, a spirited auction and lively entertainment. Hot Mess, voted Boston’s #1 band, will provide a night of entertainment. Tickets are available online at www.sshabitat.org/events.
