South Shore Habitat for Humanity is joining Habitat for Humanity organizations around the globe in honoring the countless contributions President Jimmy Carter has made to the organization and to Habitat homeowners. He and Rosalynn Carter served as Habitat for Humanity's most famous volunteers for over 35 years, helping to build affordable housing with the organization. Please join us at one of the two following events to sign a memorial door, symbolic of the many doors opened by President Carter through his charitable work. We offer a sincere thank you to our partners, the United Church of Christ in Norwell and the Ames Free Library, for providing space for this project.
Thursday, January 9, 2025 (1-2 pm; remarks at 1:15 pm):
Location: United Church of Christ, Norwell, 460 Main St, Norwell, MA.
South Shore Habitat for Humanity was founded in 1986 by members of the United Church of Christ in Norwell, in response to their neighborhood's need for affordable housing and community support. While we are now part of Habitat for Humanity International, and no longer formally associated with the church, we are grateful for their support and our long-term relationship. Members of their church, several of whom are still leading contributors to SSHH, met Jimmy Carter in 1986, at the founding of the organization. Leaders of the Church, including Pastor Leanne Walt, and SSHH Executive Director Erin McGough, will make remarks on the lawn at 1:15 pm.
Thursday, January 16, 2025 (2-6 pm): Location: Queset House - Ames Free Library, 51 Main St, North Easton, MA. We are honored to bring this project to Easton, the site of recent work for SSHH. In partnership with the town of Easton and the Town of Easton’s Affordable Housing Trust, South Shore Habitat is working on a safe and affordable colonial style single-family home. In 2025, SSHH will also add another build project on Morse Road, in Easton. SSHH staff will be available to discuss the memorial and our work.
Thank you, President Carter
